In the 2006 Christmas movie “The Holiday”, Jude Law plays the brother of Iris Simpkins, played by fellow British actor Kate Winslet.

“The Holiday”, as well as a being a festive season offering, also includes a storyline embracing both sides of the Atlantic, so includes some of the best British and American actors in the business.

Jude began acting with the National Youth Music Theatre as a teenager. Before becoming a star of the cinema screen, he had made his name on the stage.

His big break came when the West End play “Les Parents Terrible”,in which he was appearing, switched to Broadway, albeit under a new title, “Indiscretions.” The play gained Jude nominations for the Tony and Theatre World Awards.

Jude Law began to gain the kind of plaudits in the cinema, already secured on the stage, following his appearance as Lord Alfred Douglas in the move “Wilde”. The role saw him win the Evening Standard British Film Award for the Most Promising Newcomer.

Playing Dickie Greenleaf in the 1999 “The Talented Mr Ripley” Jude was a triple award winner, gaining the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Best supporting Actor – Suspense, and the Santa Fe Film Festival Award for best supporting Actor. The film also saw him gain eight other nominations.

By the time of the release of “The Holiday”, Jude had become one of the most famous movie actors on the planet. Two years earlier he played the title role in the remake of the famous Michael Caine film “Alfie.”

Despite making it big in the movies Jude never forgot his start on the stage. In 2009 he returned to the West end to appear in William Shakespeare's “Hamlet.”

The stage-play crossed the Atlantic to the United States,where his performance earned him the John and Wendy Trewin Award for Best Shakespearean Performance.

Jude was married to the actress Sadie Frost, but the marriage ended after six years in 2003. They had three children. In the autumn of 2009 the model Samantha Burke gave birth to a daughter, Sophie, his fourth child.
